Essential Apps : Limewire

24 08 2006

Ok one of the reasons i had kept my windows partition was for using LimeWire (for downloading legal files of course). Then i found out that LimeWire can be installed on Ubuntu, it does take a bit of monkeying around with command line and stuff but heres how to do it :

First download the LimeWire .rpm file from LimeWire.com, put it on the desktop
Then, to get alien, which converts .rpm to .deb, type ” sudo aptitude update”
then “sudo aptitude install alien”

Now to actually install LimeWire : “cd Desktop”

Then “sudo alien -i <Insertfilenamehere>.rpm

Et voila!

EDIT:

If Limewire isn’t working for you under Edgy, there is a fix which works in most cases, click here

Just use frostwire. It’s a port of limewire with all the pro features but for free. Install it using automatix.
