A new mp3 player
13 07 2007For once i’m looking for your help! After an unfortunate encounter with a freak rain shower, my trusty Creative Zen Sleek got mad, and is in a huff, ie its buttons aren’t working, so i’m on the market for a new player, i need 20gb minimum but after that i’m easy. Let me know which mp3 players have worked well in Linux, and more importantly, which don’t.
I’m looking for something that’s not an iPod, i had a traumatic experience with one a couple of years ago, and amn’t a big fan of their content management system and silly proprietary locks on content (’Why can’t i take the music i put onto my ipod from my computer off again?!’).
So! Lets hear what you have to say! Leave a comment!
Try one that is supported by Rockbox. That’s awesome - a Linux powered MP3-player. Free and open
It says which players are supported on the homepage:

And these are players that are in the process of being supported:

Well, I would collaborate on a podcast (if my Dutch accent would be no problem) but I have no recording hardware, so that would pose a difficulty
PS. I follow the comments here, so you can just reply here
I had the same issue with my Zen Sleek Photo… Tapping it rather forcefully seemed to realign the ailing key issue (temporarily, but as with shampoo… repeat if needed).

Do you mean whack the whole player? Or just press the keys hard?

If you can find that mp3 player buy it..It one of the best..
did you find an MP3 player? what did you get. I’m glad someone else is iPod averse.
I got myself a Creative Zen Vision M and love it, i’ve gotten it to work on Ubuntu with both gnomad 2 and Rhythmbox. I’m also watching with interest the attempts at getting open source rockbox onto the player at the rockbox and epizenter forums, i’d recommend it!
